FEATURED WORKS

& Updates

Fall/Winter 2023-2024

What a time! In October I was hired as a wildlife technician with ECCC and time has flown by in the field. We’re investigating how birds use the metro Vancouver urban landscapes in the fall and winter. This will inform us how they’re able to live here while urbanization continues to expand. We’re targeting a set number of species to understand their movement and behaviour in the urban matrix. So far we banded nearly 500 birds, put out colour bands for ID and re-sighting purposes, and put out radio transmitters and satellite tags. For more information on the project and what we’re doing, check out the PI for the project https://www.elizabethgow.com/ .

Sept 2023

IT IS DONE! I successfully defended my Master’s thesis on flying squirrels. Couldn’t have done it without my awesome thesis advisor Dr. Jeff Bowman. Now onto new adventures with ECCC as a Wildlife Technician working with urban and forest birds!

Aug 2023

I helped out on Disney’s second season of America’s National Parks on episode 5 featuring Voyageurs National Park. I shared a bit of my insight on the flying squirrel diet and helped the crew film the squirrels, and even film squirrels eating truffles. You can see my name in the end credits!

May 2023

I was featured in an article on TVO’s Great Lakes Now to talk about the diet of the flying squirrels. They also came by to film a documentary on our squirrels! Here’s a photo of me digging for truffles. Check out the article here

Winter 2022

Ontario Nature Magazine

We were featured in the Ontario Nature magazine! We discuss everything about flying squirrels you need to know… and how these furry friends are responding to climate change.

Summer 2021

I was featured on CBC’s Quirks and Quarks! I talk about my research with flying squirrels in the Kawartha Highlands, Ontario. Listen here https://www.cbc.ca/radio/quirks/july-02-best-of-quirks-quarks-summer-science-special-1.6170965

During my MSc summer field work

I use videography to show what I did for my master’s research. I spent all summer long in the forest catching squirrels and radio-tracking them to see how they move through the forest matrix.

Graduated with a Bachelor of Environmental Studies from the University of Waterloo and a Master’s of Science from Trent University, I am beginning a career path in conservation, ecology, and wildlife research. My goal is to enhance and develop a multidimensional level of scientific literacy to become a professional in the field of wildlife biology. I would like to learn and develop a deeper understanding and curiosity of the scientific world.

In my past time, I enjoy videography, solo adventures, canoeing, going backcountry, kickboxing and Muay Thai, hiking, birding, rock climbing, and creating new experiences.
